Delivery Driver (Relief)

General Summary:

Position supports the delivery department in a relief capacity to meet our customer needs. Position delivers products on an established or contingency route to customers including bars, restaurants, convenience and gas stores, supermarkets, drug stores, across a wide variety of weather conditions. Home daily.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Must be at least 23 years of age

  • Must have at valid Virginia CDL-A license

  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record in compliance with DOT requirements.

  • Must be able to lift products from 25 lbs. to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 170 lbs. when handling keg products.

  • This position must pass DOT physical and DOT Road Test

  • This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test

  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift; product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

  • Experience beverage delivery.

  • Customer Service experience.

  • Experience with a handheld ordering device.

  • Experience with operating equipment (hand trucks, hand cart and pallet jack)

  • Prior grocery store, convenience and/or restaurant experience, including stocking, product handling, and local delivery and unloading product.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspect tractor/truck and trailer to insure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed. Report all safety issues and/or repairs required.

  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately report any and all safety hazards.

  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded. Check and complete in an accurate and in legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight.

  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery sequence and within the require time windows.

  • Unload products from the trailer, transport items into designated customer storage areas. Stock, merchandise, rotate, and face product on displays, hot shelves, cooler, cold box, and back-room stock.

  • Perform damage control checks on items, scanning and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy. Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Collect money (cash or checks) where required. Load customer returns on to trailer and secure trailer doors.

  • In conjunction with the salesperson, maintain proper rotation in accordance with HB, ABI, and Craft/Import policies.

  • Provide feedback to salesperson as needed to help track and measure promotional sales effectiveness. Report all competitive activities to your salesperson (new placement, pricing opportunities, etc.).

  • Ensure that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.

  • Unload damaged goods, customer returns, complete necessary paperwork and synchronize the handheld. Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required.

  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for following instructions and established safety policies. Use the safety measures provided.

  • Do not interfere or misuse work equipment. Should only use equipment if trained and authorized.

 

Physical Requirements: This position requires exposure to inside and outside conditions, extreme cold and hot temperatures, dust, fumes, and debris with the following physical demands: bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, carrying, and lifting/moving up to 165 pounds.
