General Summary

The position is responsible for maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy trucks. Duties involve performing all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair, including engine and transmission, as well as conducting electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics.

 

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent technical training and/or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the required duties.

• Must have or be able to obtain a valid Virginia Class A CDL with 60 days of employment.

• Must possess a good driving history with no reckless driving convictions or DUIs within the past 3 years.

• Must be able to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays.

• Must be a certified state inspector or capable of becoming one.

• Must possess basic knowledge of personal computers to include Internet usage, windows, and standard software packages.

• Must have knowledge of standard shop practices and techniques.

• Must have the ability to perform mechanical repairs on engines, transmissions, and differentials. Thermal King / Carrier experience is a plus.

• Must be able to handle heavy manual labor.

• Must be knowledgeable of and capable of performing basic welding and fabrication.

• Must possess or be willing to obtain air conditioning certification.

• Must have the ability to read electrical schematics and diagnostics

 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment to include the wearing of proper safety equipment.

• Responsible for maintaining a clean working environment at all times which includes disposing of all used material in a safe and legal manner.

• Reports any unsafe conditions found on vehicles or shop work area to Shop Foreman.

• Responsible for conducting emergency road service on all Company vehicles.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, professional agencies, and the public.

• Prepare and maintain appropriate records and reports to document maintenance procedures.

• Responsible for repairing and maintaining automotive/truck maintenance equipment.

• Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical systems, and auxiliary equipment systems.

• Perform welding and fabricating operations.

• Perform all other duties the Shop Foreman may deem necessary.

 

Safety Ownership

• Take reasonable care of yourself by not taking risks or putting yourself in danger.

• Take care of others by not causing distractions and ensure your behavior does not impair the ability to perform duties safely as well as efficiently for others.

• Responsible for following instructions and established safety policies. Use the safety measures provided.

• Do not interfere or misuse work equipment. Should only use equipment if trained and authorized.

 

Compensation:

This position will be paid an hourly wage that is commensurate with experience.

 

Physical Requirements:

This position requires exposure to inside and outside condition, extreme cold and hot temperatures, dust, fumes, and debris with the following physical demands: bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, carrying, and lifting/moving up to 90 pounds.
