General Summary:

The Area Delivery Manager is responsible for all activities associated with the efficient operation of the delivery department. This includes P&L responsibility, ensuring customer satisfaction, compliance, employee relations and safety.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in business, logistics, transportation. A combination of other education and experiences will be considered.

  • High School Diploma or have GED equivalent. Two or more years of college preferred

  • Five (5) years or more in the management of warehouse and/or transportation operations required.

  • Pass company criminal background and drug screen

  • Ability to use a computer along with Microsoft Office suite

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Virginia CDL- A with no prior violations within the last five years

  • Valid DOT Medical Card

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Previous experience and/or formal training or education in transportation including loading of trailers and store delivery procedures.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of government regulations pertaining to transportation.

  • Possess good leadership skills and the ability to supervise the work of others. Must be able to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.

  • Possess good communication skills, both verbal and written. Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone.

  • Personal computer skills required. Prior experience with Excel and Word applications in a Microsoft Windows environment. Working knowledge of the onboard computer system helpful.

  • Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities. Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment.

 

Essential Functions

  • Ensures all drivers comply with Company, Federal, State and Local laws, and regulations.

  • Ensures all drivers perform required pre/post-trip safety inspection on tractor and trailer

  • Manage the performance of employees under their responsibility, resolve performance issues, and ensure compliance with Hoffman Beverage Company policies and procedures.​

  • Monitor the performance of their team.  Including weekly review of breakage, mis-picks, customer complaints, Samsara safety violations, and refusals in weekly delivery meeting.

  • Create training plans for all new hires based on their prior experience.

  • Certifying all new hires on pre/post trip, backing up, and driving abilities before being allowed to drive on a route with Senior Driver.

  • Train drivers on required standards and complete periodic evaluations of driver performance.

  • Conduct 30/60/90-day follow up meetings with new hires to review their performance create additional training plans if employee is having issues.

  • Ensure that all drivers follow correct check out/in procedures for their routes

  • Assist Routing Coordinator with ensuring there is proper staffing for the next day’s routes.

  • Attend and participate in weekly Delivery meeting with management team.

  • Attend monthly Delivery meeting with drivers and participate in creating materials to present.

  • Performs surveys at accounts while observing driver delivering or post-delivery after the driver has left.

  • When performing account visits with driver, if driver is done early then reach out to team to see if anyone needs assistance or is having issues.  Reach out to Sales team to see if they need any additional assistance.

  • Conduct a morning meeting with drivers when they start their day once a week to discuss department news and safety topics.

  • Following up with Sales department on customer complaints regarding delivery drivers and their performance.  This includes but not limited to performing ride along with driver, visiting account before driver delivers, while the driver is delivering, or after the driver has completed delivery and has left the account.

  • Collaborate with other ADM’s, Routing Coordinator, Director of Delivery, and Sales Management to discuss delivery frequencies of accounts biannually.

  • Participate in quarterly meeting with Routing Coordinator to review account’s phase schedule to look for delivery improvements for drivers.

  • Communicates with Warehouse management regarding redelivery of stops or if refused order should be put back into inventory.

  • Maintains good public relations with store management via telephone communications and store visits. Works with store personnel on special requests.

  • Suggest efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assists with implementation of delivery changes.

  • Counseling employees who are not performing at Hoffman Beverage Company standards

  • Monitor Samsara for safety violations and coach drivers on their performance.  Highlight positive safety awareness demonstrated by drivers.

  • Review for accuracy and submit bi-monthly payroll inputs for team members.

  • Serve as backup for shuttle transfer from Lawrenceville warehouse to Chesapeake warehouse or coverage on routes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
